Woodland Gardens
Woodland Gardens
Leading into the primary Woodland Garden, a calm wood of established native beech punctuated with more recent hazel, cornus and various acers.
This woodland bursts into life in spring with an array of bulbs closely followed by wildflowers, dying back when the tree canopy develops to make way for ferns and euphorbias. After summer, the blend of trees is rich with autumn colour.
Please head out of the woodland towards the exit of the estate.
Heading towards the Long Border we pass one of our trees of merit, the Thuja plicata, or Western redcedar, originating from North America, this specimen is easily over 100-years-old and could live on to be 1000.

Western Redcedar
Thuja plicata
A large, evergreen and narrowly pyramidal tree which can reach heights of up to 35m. Its mid-to-dark green leaves are scale-like, sharply pointed, glossy and aromatic. Foliage is held in large drooping sprays on spreading branches that curve upwards at their end.
