The Fountain
The Fountain
Starting at The Fountain by the entrance to the hotel, we are surrounded by a verdant mixed border – a beautiful succession of planting to offer something in each season.
The Pinus sylvestrus “Cloud Pines”, a lovely, pruned evergreen accompanied by Cornus chinensis and Cornus controversa “Wedding Cake Tree”. These are dogwoods that display abundant white flowers in late spring, sometimes into summer.
The herbaceous plants offer a soft colour palette, mainly white, which lends itself well to wedding photos. In summer, the astrantia are in bloom while the lillies are ready to come to life. The Japonica Anenome “Anemone-Honorine Jobert” in late summer are a particular favourite of our Head Gardener.

Wedding Cake Tree
Cornus controversa
A small, deciduous tree with strongly tiered branches, bearing narrowly ovate leaves, broadly margined with cream and turning yellow in autumn. Small, cream flowers in flat clusters are followed by black berries.
