They say a picture paints a thousand words – and, as the days begin to get longer and the sun starts to shine brighter, there’ll be plenty more opportunities to capture all that makes Hadrian’s Wall so special, in a photograph that will last long after you go home.  To ensure you get the perfect shot, venture 20 miles west of Matfen Hall towards the world’s most famous tree at Sycamore Gap during summer, and take a photo of the magical tree nestled in between two rolling hills with a part of Hadrian’s Wall standing strong in the background. 

 

A chance for leisurely short strolls

Hadrian’s Wall provides ample opportunity for walks of all shapes and sizes, across a variety of terrain and different distances – making it the perfect place to visit regardless of whether you’re an experienced hiker or someone who prefers a leisurely stroll.  For those of you who’d prefer to take in the sights of the wall at a slower pace, the circular walking route at Chesters Roman Fort makes for the perfect morning adventure. Set just 10 miles away from our grand estate, the route is about 2.5 miles long and will take no longer than an hour as you pass through the quiet village of Humshaugh and back round to the impressive fort at Chesters.
